On Sunday, the Drudge Report made sure to highlight the fact that Democratic presidential contender flavor of the week Pete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Ind., received a “standing ovation” from the small crowd who attended his Fox News “town hall” with host Chris Wallace.
While certain that the post is tied to Drudge’s souring on POTUS because of the president’s falling out with Ann Coulter, who is a pal of the Internet news aggregator, what is more instructive is that Drudge believes giving Mayor Pete this much attention is a worthy endeavor.
The small ovation aside, Buttigieg is a long shot to get the 2020 Democratic nomination — as are most other Democrats running in the party’s presidential sweepstakes — because Joe Biden’s entry into the race has sucked all the political oxygen from the room, save for what commie Sen. Bernie Sanders has managed to salvage.
And yet, there was Drudge giving time (and clicks) to a candidate who has demonstrated time and again that, despite the fact he served his country in uniform, he doesn’t have much respect for how it was founded and the men (and women) who sacrificed so he and 320-plus million Americans could thrive today.
Case in point: In a recent interview with conservative pundit Hugh Hewitt, Buttigieg dumped on founding father Thomas Jefferson and said he wasn’t worthy to be remembered as a great American today because…slavery.
Once again, we have another Democratic political candidate dredging up our past in order to slam some of the most brilliant men who ever lived and devised a government — and yet claiming, in the same breath, that our country is worthy of leading as its president.
The hypocrisy isn’t just thick, it’s overwhelming.
As The National Sentinel noted in a scathing review of Buttigieg’s interview, the South Bend Democrat’s moralizing over Jefferson’s slaves and how, because of that, we should change the name of stuff we named after him wears thin:
It’s not like we get enough of this from Marxist Democrats in off-election years; now that the 2020 presidential contest is in full bloom, it’s like it has become a requirement — dare I say a ‘litmus test?’ — for Dem candidates to see who can degrade America the most.
“Let’s go to policy now. A very blunt question because you talk about going to every Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Indiana when you were running statewide. Should Jefferson-Jackson dinners be renamed everywhere because both were holders of slaves?” Hewitt asked, in what was a loaded question.
“Yeah, we’re doing that in Indiana. I think it’s the right thing to do. You know, over time, you develop and evolve on the things you choose to honor. And I think we know enough, especially Jackson, you know, you just look at what basically amounts to genocide that happened here. Jefferson’s more problematic,” he responded.
Why is Jefferson “more problematic?” Because he was engaged in a practice that was widely accepted at the time? And because of this, we are to completely erase Jefferson from our history, forgetting the role he had in creating the greatest form of government ever devised?
“It’s not like we’re blotting him out of the history books or deleting him from being the founding fathers. But, naming something after somebody confers a certain amount of honor,” Buttigieg continued.
Really? Because based on news stories we’ve been reading the past few years, Leftists around the country are doing just that — blotting our founders out of history and taking down their statues and monuments.
No one is perfect, including Pete Buttigieg, but our founders deserve a special place of honor in our society because they are our founders. If this man can’t understand that, he has no business being our president.
